Welcome to Mahonia Gardens online!

Happy Winter everyone! We hope that your fires are warming and your pantries are full!

We are so blessed to be a part of this community. Currently we are able to survive the winter off of our summer harvest successes and our storage crops! We have been eating roots— potatoes, carrots, beets, parsnips, sunchokes, onions, garlic, purple daikon radishes, and sweet winter squashes. Making soups and root roasts. Potato pancakes, mashed potatoes, potatoes au gratin. We’ve been roasting meat from our local livestockeries, and drinking raw milk from Hope Springs Dairy (as well as adding it to our tropically-grown morning beverage ;)

It feels positively luxurious to be able to sustain the winter by growing and getting food from here— where many people believe it impossible. Not to say we don’t buy crackers and mint newman o’s, but that’s extra. All we need to sustain is possible here in Central Oregon. That is incredibly empowering!

On that note, have a beautiful Thanksgiving meal; a charming and magical Christmas; and a winter full of what you love.

Your support makes it possible to do what we do; and helps us to thrive. We can’t do it without you.

Let’s share a cheers this holiday! We’ll send one out to you!

Love,

Carys, Benji and Junius
