CSA - community supported agriculture

Our CSA operates as a membership through our farm stand.
The Stand is a seasonal vegatable store in sisters, open May 1 through October 31

Why are CSA’s good for you and important for farmers?

CSA programs establish an important relationship between farmers and eaters. Customers can feel the satisfaction of knowing exactly where their food comes from, and farmers can feel secure knowing that their crops will have a home after harvest.

For farmers, CSA’s ensure that we have funds in the early spring when our income from the previous summer is running low. By paying for your CSA in the spring, we are able to buy seeds, compost and other supplies, pay employees and cover our mortgage without stress.

The Farm Stand CSA:

In the traditional CSA arrangement, farmers will put together a share to be picked up by members at a specific time and location every week.

With our model, members pay a season-long fee to be redeemed through our farm stand, “The Stand,” in downtown Sisters. Your “share” can be picked up any time during open hours (9am-7pm daily, May through October). CSA credit can be used for anything we sell at The Stand— including our vegetables, veggies from other farms, flour, honey, meat etc. It’s your choice!

Benefits of the Farm Stand CSA include more veggies for your money, more variety, more choice, and access to food from other growers and producers.

We are offering the following shares:

Very important CSA information:

The Stand is an ever changing, local sourcing adventure and we are always working to provide you with the best quality, most local options.

One challenge- we know that most of our customers want pasture raised eggs. We have been working very hard to find the best quality eggs in Central Oregon to bring into The Stand. Currently, the quality of eggs we can get, at the scale that we are allowed to buy from, does not cut the mustard. Hopefully we will be able to provide.

Vegetables are pretty reliable, but sometimes we may not have the item you need when you need it. This is due to imperfections in the field and seasonal variability. For example: you will not see salad turnips all summer as they grow poorly then; or we may not have cilantro for a week because one succession did not germinate as expected.

Just remember this—The traditional CSA model is based around seasonal availability and amounts of things growing at a time. The Stand will provide seasonal produce. Sometimes if we have an abundance of a certain item and we would like to sell more of it, we may leave a note at The Stand, ex. “try our red romaine today”, and as a CSA member, knowing the reason, you could indulge.

As long as there’s a few farmers out there, we’ll keep fighting for them.
